Baldur's Gate 3 has 12 classes taken from Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Each one splits into subclasses – Patch 8 (April 2025) added a new one for every class, from the Path of Giants Barbarian to the Bladesinging Wizard. The level cap is 12, and your subclass choice comes at level 1, 2 or 3 depending on the class.

How to choose

Easiest startFighter, Paladin and Barbarian are forgiving – lots of hit points and simple turns.
Want magic?Warlock is the simplest caster; Wizard has the most spells; Cleric heals best.
Companions fill gapsYour party covers the rest – pick the class you'll enjoy, not the one the party needs.
Respec any timeWithers, the skeleton in your camp, lets you rebuild a character for a small fee.
MulticlassingFrom level 2 you can take levels in another class. Fun, but best left for your second playthrough.
