Rainbow Six Siege is Ubisoft's 5v5 tactical shooter on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Since the Siege X relaunch in June 2025 you can start for free with Free Access. Rounds are short and deadly: one life, destructible walls and 78 operators with their own gadgets. This guide covers what a new player needs in Y11S3 Operation Split Fire.

Step 1: Understand a round

5 vs 5Attackers against defenders, one life each per round. Sides swap during the match.
Prep phaseBefore each round, attackers drive drones to find the objective while defenders reinforce walls and set up gadgets.
BombThe main mode: attackers plant a defuser on one of two bomb sites, defenders stop it – or eliminate the other team.
DestructionMany walls, floors and hatches can be broken. Opening the right wall is often how a round is won.

Step 2: Pick your first operators

Sledge or ThermiteBreach walls for your team – useful in every attack.
Mute or BanditStop drones and breaches on defense.
Rook or DocArmor and healing for the team – great anchors on site.
Striker and SentryPick any secondary gadget you like – a good way to learn what each one does.

Step 3: Play the right modes first

Quick Match & UnrankedFull rounds without rank pressure – the best place to learn maps.
Dual FrontSiege X's 6v6 mode where both teams attack and defend at the same time.
Team DeathmatchWarm up your aim without objectives.
RankedNeeds the full game (not Free Access), Clearance Level 50 and at least 10 attackers and 10 defenders unlocked.

Step 4: Learn a few maps

There are 15 maps in the Ranked pool right now. Start with two or three – Bank, Clubhouse and Border are classics – and see them all on our maps page.

Step 5: Ranked when you're ready

Eight tiersCopper, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond and Champion – each with five divisions, V to I.
Ranked 3.0Since June 2026 your Rank Points are your rank – there's no hidden MMR.
Legend DivisionA solo-queue playlist above Champion, opened on October 15, 2026.
