How to Get Cases in Counter-Strike 2: Weekly Drops, Armory Credits, Market and Keys

Every way to get cases in CS2 right now: the weekly Care Package, Armory credits, the Steam Market and trading, plus which cases still drop and what changed.

Cases are still the backbone of the Counter-Strike 2 skin economy, but the way you get them has changed a lot over the past year. Old "rare" cases no longer drop, a new keyless container called the Terminal has taken two of the five drop slots, and the Armory has its own rotation. This guide is current for November 2026, after the Dead Hand update in March and the Armory refresh in July.

If you want a knife specifically, our separate knife guide covers odds and trade-ups. This one is about getting the cases themselves.

Quick answer

Method Cost What you get
Weekly Care Package Free with Prime, plus one profile level-up per week Pick 2 of 4 rewards, which can include a case or a Terminal
Armory credits Armory Pass, $15.99 for 40 credits Cases at 2 credits each when one is in the Armory rotation
Steam Community Market Steam Wallet funds Any tradable case, including retired ones
Trading Skins you already own Any case another player is willing to swap

Whichever way you get a case, you still need a key to open it. Terminals are the exception: they need no key.

Requirements

  • Prime Status on your account. Without it, no Care Package appears and you can't buy an Armory Pass.
  • XP from official Valve servers. Community servers and third-party platforms like FACEIT don't count toward drops or Armory credits.
  • Steam Wallet funds for keys, Market purchases or an Armory Pass.
  • Steam Guard turned on if you plan to use the Market or trade.

Method 1: Claim your weekly Care Package

  1. Play on official servers. Premier, Competitive, Wingman, Casual and Deathmatch all give profile XP.
  2. Rank up once. Your first profile rank-up of the week (5,000 XP) unlocks the Care Package. Extra rank-ups in the same week don't give a second one.
  3. Open the package. It shows four rewards. These can be cases, Terminals, weapon skins or sealed graffiti.
  4. Choose two. Pick the two you want and the rest disappear. An unclaimed package doesn't carry over to the next week.
  5. Wait for the reset. The week rolls over on Tuesday evening in the Americas, which is early Wednesday morning UTC. The in-game XP bar shows a timer.

Your weekly XP bonus also refreshes at the reset, so the first few matches after it level you up much faster than matches later in the week.

Which cases are in the drop pool

According to community trackers as of late October 2026, the active weekly pool holds five containers:

Container Key needed?
Kilowatt Case Yes
Revolution Case Yes
Dreams & Nightmares Case Yes
Sealed Genesis Terminal No
Sealed Dead Hand Terminal No

Valve doesn't publish the pool or the odds, so check the in-game rewards to be sure.

Method 2: Spend Armory credits

The Armory Pass is a separate track. It costs $15.99 and gives 40 Armory credits. You earn credits by gaining XP, roughly one credit for every 300 XP, and you can stack several passes so each one earns at the same time.

  1. Buy an Armory Pass from the Armory tab in the main menu.
  2. Play on official servers to earn credits.
  3. Check the Armory's current stock. Valve rotates it, mixing cases with collections, charms and stickers.
  4. Redeem a case if one is listed. Armory cases have cost 2 credits each, so a full pass can buy up to 20.

The Armory rotation changes over time, so a case you saw last season may be gone. If no case is listed when you check, your credits go to other rewards instead.

Method 3: Buy on the Steam Community Market

The Market is the only way to get cases that no longer drop.

  1. Open the Steam Community Market and filter by Counter-Strike 2.
  2. Search for the case by name. Retired cases like the Chroma or Operation Bravo cases are still listed here.
  3. Compare listings and buy with your Steam Wallet funds.

Older cases became more valuable after Valve quietly shut off the rare drop pool around the turn of 2025-26. More than 35 legacy cases stopped dropping, so the Market is now the only supply for them.

Method 4: Trade with other players

You can swap skins for cases through Steam trade offers. Since July 2025, CS2 uses Trade Protection: items from a trade are locked for seven days, and either side can reverse the trade during that window. A reversal costs that account 30 days of trading and Market access. In practice, don't count a case as yours until the seven days are up.

Keys and Terminals

Keys are case-specific. A Kilowatt key opens only a Kilowatt Case. Valve sells them in-game for $2.49 in the US. Keys bought since October 2019 can't be traded or sold. You can only use them, so buy one only when you're ready to open.

Terminals work differently. They arrived with the Genesis Collection in September 2025, and the Dead Hand Terminal followed in March 2026 with 22 new gloves in its rare pool. Unsealing one is free. An in-game arms dealer then shows you one skin at a time with its wear and a fixed price. You can pay or decline, up to five offers in total. Decline all five and the Terminal is used up for nothing.

Unopened Terminals can be sold on the Market. Skins bought from one can be traded and sold too, but they lose their Original Owner Certificate when they change hands.

Tips

  • Claim your package every week. It's the only free source of cases, and missed weeks are gone for good.
  • Front-load your XP. Play right after the weekly reset to rank up while the bonus is active.
  • Sell drops you won't open. Even cheap cases add up toward a skin you actually want.
  • Look at the price before you accept. Terminal offers can be priced well above what the same skin costs on the Market.
  • Don't stockpile keys. They can't be resold, so a key you never use is money lost.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting rare cases from drops. The legacy pool is off. Older cases come only from the Market or trades.
  • Grinding past the first level-up. It doesn't unlock a second package that week.
  • Playing on community servers. That XP doesn't count toward drops or Armory credits.
  • Buying the wrong key. Every case needs its own matching key.
