In World of Warcraft: Forever you don't pick a realm from a long list – you pick a ruleset. Four are available from launch on November 4, 2026, and a fifth, Hardcore, comes later.

The rulesets

NormalPvE. You only fight players from the other faction when you choose to flag for PvP. The safest pick for most new players.
PvPWorld PvP is always on in contested zones – the other faction can attack you while you quest.
RoleplayNormal rules plus a community that stays in character. Pick it if you want to roleplay or enjoy a world that feels lived-in.
Roleplay-PvPRoleplay and open-world PvP together. Added shortly before launch after feedback from the roleplaying community.
Hardcore – laterBlizzard has confirmed a Hardcore ruleset for some time after launch. No date has been announced.

Mega-realms and layering

One ruleset, one worldForever has no traditional realm list. Each ruleset is one large shared "mega-realm" in your region – you pick a ruleset, not a server.
Names are unique per regionBecause everyone on a ruleset plays together, a character name can only be used once in your region.
LayeringTo fit everyone in, players are spread across copies (layers) of the world behind the scenes. Blizzard says some layering will always be part of Forever.
Fixes for launchBlizzard told the press that groups will no longer be split on boats and zeppelins, or when large groups enter or leave capital cities, with more tuning after launch.
