A biome is a region with its own terrain, plants, weather, mobs and structures. Minecraft has more than 60 of them across three dimensions. The newest are the autumn-coloured Dappled Forest (Wilderness Bound, September 2026) and the underground Sulfur Caves (Chaos Cubed, June 2026). Ice Caves come next in the winter drop.

Tips for explorers

Plains for a first baseFlat ground, villages, animals and few trees to clear make plains and meadows the easiest place to settle.
Careful in dark forestsThe canopy is so thick that hostile mobs can spawn under it in broad daylight.
Mine by biomeBadlands have extra gold, dripstone caves extra copper, and mountains hide emeralds.
Find biomes fasterWandering traders and cartographer villagers sell explorer maps, and a boat is the fastest early way to scout coastlines.
